Prices come from the Norwegian Consumer Council's electricity price portal (Forbrukerrådet), where suppliers are required by law to report their contracts, per price area (NO1–NO5). No login.
How the total price is worked out
Every contract is ranked on its estimated total price in øre/kWh at the consumption you have chosen, now 14,400 kWh/yr. Unless you choose another, that is 14,400 kWh/yr — the average Norwegian household; the pages for price areas, municipalities and suppliers always sort at 14,400 kWh/yr. It covers both the energy price and the monthly fee, incl. 25% VAT. In NO4 we compute without VAT, because households in Nordland, Troms and Finnmark pay no VAT on electricity. The electricity subsidy (strømstøtte) and Norgespris are not deducted: the subsidy is worked out from the spot price in the price area whichever contract you have, so it does not change the order. The markup gets its own column — markup and total price are never merged into a single number.
Spot price
The price follows the spot price in the price area, plus the supplier's markup. The reference used is the mean of the last seven full days of spot prices in NO1: 152.5 øre/kWh excl. VAT — it is used to work out the energy price and the total price of these contracts.

Type the markup and monthly fee from your contract terms or price list. We work out the yearly cost at 14,400 kWh/yr with the same spot price as the list and compare it with the cheapest contract.
Both figures include VAT, at 14,400 kWh/yr. The electricity subsidy (strømstøtte) applies equally to every contract and is therefore left out of both figures; the grid fee (nettleie) and elavgift are not included either.

Price history: Spot price in NO1
The estimated total price covers the energy price, markup and monthly fee, including the price area's VAT (NO4 is shown without VAT, because households in Nordland, Troms and Finnmark pay no VAT on electricity). The grid fee, elavgift (electricity tax) and the electricity subsidy (strømstøtte) are not included — they are on the grid company's bill whichever supplier you pick.
Energy price at the 7-day reference = (mean spot price of the last seven full days in NO1, 152.5 øre/kWh excl. VAT, + the supplier's markup) × 1.25, without the monthly fee.
“Campaign, new customers only”, “campaign”: The contract is registered as a campaign in Forbrukerrådet's price portal, or we marked it ourselves because the markup is negative, or because a spot contract has 0 in both markup and monthly fee. See the terms at the supplier via the link. “New customers only”: the campaign applies only when signing the contract as a new customer.
The marks after a company name show conditions from Forbrukerrådet's price portal: who the contract is for, the payment method it requires and any cap on yearly consumption. A contract with a cap has no price for consumption above the cap.
“Guaranteed … mo” under the markup is how long the supplier promises not to raise the markup, as the supplier stated it in Forbrukerrådet's price portal.
“After the campaign” and “After the fixed-price period” show the contract the supplier states the customer moves to, with that contract's estimated total price today in the same price area at the same consumption. If that contract is not listed for the area, only its name is shown. The terms text behind the line is the supplier's own, verbatim (in Norwegian).

Common questions
A short guide to how electricity contracts work in Norway and how the figures on this page are worked out.
What does the estimated total price mean, and why is it the figure that compares directly?
The estimated total price is the energy price plus the monthly fee, converted to øre/kWh at a given annual consumption, including VAT where VAT applies. It is the only figure on this site that folds both the energy price and the fee into one number, which is what makes two differently structured contracts — say, different markups and different monthly fees — comparable at all. The electricity subsidy (strømstøtte) and Norgespris are not deducted. A contract that cannot be converted to a total price shows “not stated” rather than a guess.
What is the difference between spot price, fixed price and variable price?
On a fixed price the price per kWh stays the same for the whole contract period. On a spot price contract the price follows the spot price in your price area, plus the supplier's markup; the reference shown here is the mean of the last seven full days of spot prices in the price area. A variable price is set by the supplier and can change.
What does the price area (NO1–NO5) mean for the price?
Norway is split into five price areas: NO1 Østlandet (east), NO2 Sørlandet (south), NO3 Midt-Norge (central), NO4 Nord-Norge (north) and NO5 Vestlandet (west). The price area determines the spot price — the price spot contracts are calculated from — because the grid can only move a limited amount of power between areas. Fixed prices can differ between areas too, if a supplier prices them per area. Pick your price area at the top of the page to see the right prices.
Does the price include VAT?
Yes, where VAT applies. The total prices, energy prices and NOK/year figures in the tables include 25% VAT in NO1, NO2, NO3 and NO5. Households in Nordland, Troms and Finnmark pay no VAT on electricity, so NO4 is shown without VAT. The grid fee (nettleie) and the electricity tax (elavgift) are not part of any figure here: you pay those to your grid company whichever supplier you choose.
Where do the prices come from?
Prices come from Forbrukerrådet's electricity price portal. Suppliers are required by law to report their contracts there. Spot prices come from Hva koster strømmen.no. This site is not affiliated with Forbrukerrådet. The time of the latest update is shown at the top of the page.
How often are the prices on this site updated?
The site rebuilds every time a new collection run finishes. The time of the latest update is shown in the “Updated” badge at the top of the page. Always check with the supplier before signing — the collection can lag behind the supplier's own page.
