The electricity price on your website
A small box with the spot price in one price area, for the website of your housing co-op, residents' association or business. Pick a price area and a look, copy the code and paste it into your page. No sign-up or key is needed.
Make the box
The code under the preview follows your choices.
The electricity price hour by hour on Velg strøm
How to paste the code
- WordPress: add a “Custom HTML” block (“Egendefinert HTML” in Norwegian) where the box should go, and paste the code.
- Other publishing tools usually have a block or field for HTML or embedding. Paste the code there.
- Some sites do not let every user save an iframe. If the code disappears when you save, whoever runs the site can help.
- The box is 340 pixels high. Its width follows the space on the page, from 280 to 560 pixels.
What the box shows
- The spot price now: the price for the hour in progress when the box was made, with that hour's time.
- The day's cheapest and most expensive hour.
- The three cheapest hours in a row during the day, with the mean price of those three hours.
- A chart of the day's hourly prices, and of the next day's once published, normally around 13:00. The colours are the same fixed price levels as on the rest of the site.
- When the prices were fetched (“Updated …”).
The prices are spot prices from the exchange's day-ahead market, hourly price (average) in øre/kWh with 25% VAT. In NO4 they are shown without VAT, because households in Nordland, Troms and Finnmark pay no VAT on electricity.
What the box does not show
The box does not show what electricity costs you in total. The supplier's markup and fixed fee, the grid fee and the electricity tax come on top. The electricity subsidy (strømstøtte), deducted on the grid invoice, and Norgespris are not included.

How fresh the prices are
The box is made again at most every 15 minutes when someone views it, with prices fetched from Hva koster strømmen.no. “Updated …” is when the prices were fetched, and “Now” says which hour the box was made for. If nobody has viewed the box for a while, the first view can be an older copy; the times in the box say which.
If Hva koster strømmen.no does not answer, the box shows the prices Velg strøm last fetched itself, and “Updated” says when that was. If there are no prices for the day, the box says so.
The box uses no JavaScript, sets no cookies and does not reload by itself.
The links
Inside the box are the source of the prices, Hva koster strømmen.no, and a link to the page with the area's hourly prices on Velg strøm. The links open in a new tab.
The code also has a link to Velg strøm under the box. You can leave it as it is or give it rel="nofollow". That is up to you.
Home Assistant and info screens
The address of the box can be shown on its own, without the code around it. In Home Assistant you can use the Webpage card (type: iframe):
type: iframe url: https://velgstrom.com/widget/en/spotpris/NO1/dark aspect_ratio: 80%
Adjust aspect_ratio until the whole box fits in the card.
On a tablet or an info screen you can open the address in the browser. The box does not update by itself, so a screen that stays on all day has to reload the page now and then, for example with the kiosk app's auto-reload setting, if it has one.
The box is made to be looked at, not to be read by an automation. For that, the spot prices are open JSON files at Hva koster strømmen.no: Hva koster strømmen.no – API ↗
